## <a name="_Toc1"></a>Manufacturing

A manufacturing corporation must coordinate an unending amount of work, from putting together the components for manufacturing to shipping the finished product to the market. To ensure the quality of each product, the conversion of raw materials into final goods must be effectively monitored or managed. If all of these processes are managed manually, it will be quite taxing on you and take up a significant portion of your working day. In order to ensure that their consumers are receiving high-quality products, the company will benefit from having an effective system for managing all of these procedures related to manufacturing orders.

A business may effectively manage manufacturing orders, bills of materials, and work centers, and track all manufacturing operations at every level with the use of the Odoo17 ERP system. Odoo 17 is wholly reliable for the efficient management of job orders. With the specialized module, arranging and planning each stage of manufacture is now simpler.

We will examine the Manufacturing module for Odoo 17 in-depth in this chapter.

You will arrive at the Overview window of the work centers in Odoo17 when you access the Manufacturing module from the main dashboard of Odoo17. As seen in the image below, this platform will display all configured work centers in your system.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-ue8efxhb.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-01.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-01.jpg")

The work centers can be managed directly from this dashboard. You can keep track of all the work orders for the specific work center by using the **Work Orders** button. You can use the little monitor icon for this. You can access additional operating tools by clicking on the three dots located in the upper right corner of each work center tab, as illustrated below. You can take steps to plan orders and maintenance using this menu.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-kxdr3l5s.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-02.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-02.jpg")

Additionally, it displays buttons for creating reports on performance, waiting availability, and overall equipment efficiency.

To make the necessary changes to the work center's configuration, use the Settings option. You can see a tiny red dot on the associated work center if the work center is obstructed. There are no active work orders at the specific work center, as indicated by the yellow color of the **PLAN ORDERS.**

***Work Centers***

A production order includes a number of steps that must be completed in order to produce a flawless final product. All of these procedures can be specified as **Work Orders** when configuring a manufacturing order in the Odoo17 Manufacturing module. The manufacturing process is managed in medium-sized to large businesses by coordinating the activities of many work centers. With the aid of Odoo 17, it is feasible to allocate each manufacturing stage to these work centers and coordinate them.

You can go to the **Configuration** menu and select the **Work Centres** option to configure the work center for the Odoo17 Manufacturing module.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-tw5mvul6.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-03.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-03.jpg")

The already defined list of work centers will be displayed, as seen in the screenshot below, together with information such as the name of the work center, its code, tag, alternative work centers, cost per hour, capacity, time efficiency, and OEE target.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-1tvrq4zn.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-04.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-04.jpg")

The view can also be changed to a Kanban view. You can set up a brand-new WorkCentre by selecting Create. Click the New button to start a new one.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-hgjig0zg.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-05.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-05.jpg")

You can specify a name for the work center in the **Work Centre Name** box for internal identification. In the provided space, provide the proper **Tags** for the work center. If the actual work center is busy, you might indicate the **Alternative work centers** that can be used to continue the manufacturing process in place of this one. Add the **Code, Working Hours,** and **Company** of this work center to the corresponding fields.

Additional tabs with information on this work center's specifics, including **General Information, Specific Capacities, Equipment,** and **IoT Triggers,** are available.

***Master Production Planning***

A production forecasting method based on anticipated demand might be thought of as master production planning. In the Manufacturing module of Odoo 17's enterprise edition, the user will have access to this feature. Manufacturers can utilize the Master Production Planning feature to schedule production. According to projections, it determines the product demand. If the estimate is off, you can also change the value. This function helps with production planning in accordance with market demand. This function can help the user determine how much of the product has to be produced in order to satisfy demand.

The Master Production Schedule function must first be enabled from the Settings menu's Planning tab, as illustrated in the image below.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-ajellq2m.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-71.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-71.jpg")

Set the Time Range after the functionality has been enabled. It can be weekly, daily, or monthly. The number of columns for the MPS reports can also be mentioned in the area provided. You can now choose the **Master Production Schedule** option from the **Planning** menu.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-petlcshb.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-72.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-72.jpg")

Starting Inventory, Actual Demand, Indirect Demand Forecast, To Replenish, Actual Replenishment, Forecasted Stock, and Available to Promise are all included in this.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-bec5mqzs.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-74.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-74.jpg")

Only Odoo17 may produce a manufacturing order upon replenishment if the route of operation of the relevant product is set to "Manufacturing" when it is added to the MPS. By selecting the **Add a Product** button after making necessary changes to the routes of operation, you can add the product to MPS. As seen below, a pop-up window will appear as a result.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-qapaznrz.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-75.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-75.jpg")

Enter the appropriate information in the areas for the Product, Bill of Materials, and Production Warehouse. Mention the minimal free stock you want to keep on hand at all times for the product listed in the **Safety Stock Target** field. If you provide the **Minimum to Replenish,** Odoo17 will always replenish at least that amount until the demand is zero. The amount listed in the **Maximum to Replenish** denotes the largest amount of replenishment you wish to deploy for each MPS product. The remainder will automatically be carried over to the following period if the demand exceeds this amount. Afterward, press the **Save** button.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-voradqau.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-76.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-76.jpg")

The product has a beginning inventory or on-hand quantity of 16. This window contains the stock information for the upcoming twelve months. This month's opening stock is 16. The **Forecasted Demand** section allows users to manually enter the projected demand for this product for the current month. The **Suggested Replenishment** will indicate the quantity that needs to be replaced via a purchase order or manufacturing order. The forecasted stock showed the anticipated amount that will be on hand in inventory at the period's conclusion. Depending on the product's operational path, Odoo17 will generate a manufacturing order or purchase order when you click the **Replenish** button.

To see the orders created to restock the product, visit the **Manufacturing Orders** portal. You might think of MPS as the source of the orders.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-eljettgk.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-77.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-77.jpg")

***Bill of Material***

Configuring the product's components in the Odoo17 Manufacturing module is required before creating a manufacturing order. You can make a list of the raw materials or components needed to make the product using the Bill of Material feature in the Odoo17 Manufacturing module. You may produce three different types of material bills in Odoo17. You can choose the type of **Manufacturing this product, Kit,** or **Subcontracting** in the BoM Type area. You can use the Manufacture this Product option if you are generating this BoM with the purpose of manufacturing this product. You can sell the parts of this BoM as a kit if you choose the Kit option. By choosing the Subcontracting option, you are telling the allocated subcontractor to use this BOM to manufacture the product for you. Each of these BoM Types will be examined independently.

Let's start by talking about how to develop a BoM for product manufacturing. Using the Add a Line button under the **Components** tab, you may list each raw material needed to make the given product. Don't forget to provide the necessary quantity of the component(s) in the Quantity area.

You can now add the operations designated for the work centers under the Operations tab to finish the product's manufacture. Using the matching button in the tab, you can duplicate the current operations already allocated to the product. Alternatively, press the Add a Line button.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-ggmuh3ka.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-81.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-81.jpg")

A pop-up window describing the specifics of the operation will appear. In the appropriate fields, indicate the operation to be performed and the work center. You can enter them in the Apply on variations area if the operation is also applicable to the product variations.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-sdlkvifb.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-82.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-82.jpg")

Set the **Duration Computation** according to your needs. You have two options for setting the operation's duration: either manually setting it or computing it based on tracked time. Here, the default duration will be displayed. The **Employee Capacity** field allows for the specification of the number of employees needed to accomplish this operation. The operation's worksheet can be added as a PDF, Google Slide, or text. Along with this, fill out the available area with a Description of the operation's procedures.

Odoo17 will let you choose the sequence in which the work orders are completed if you activate the **Work Order Dependencies** option from the module's **Settings** menu. You can choose the sequence of the operations by activating the Operation Dependencies button found under the **Miscellaneous** tab of the BoM.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-mygsyksx.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-83.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-83.jpg")

When this feature is turned on, the Operation window will have a Blocked By area where you can specify other actions to be processed after this one. You can see an arrow on work orders from **Work Orders Planning** that indicates the Gantt view's performance order.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-qzop0w5u.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-84.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-84.jpg")

- Manufacturing Lead Time: This is the typical amount of time needed to produce a product. The component manufacturing lead times will be added in the event of a multi-BOM. This can be used to figure out when components should be sent to the subcontractor if the product is being subcontracted.
- Days needed to prepare Manufacturing Order: To ensure you have adequate time to manufacture semi-finished items or refill components, create and confirm manufacturing orders well in advance.

Under the By-products tab, the main product's associated by-products can be added.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-lwsmfhks.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-85.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-85.jpg")

In the **Manufacturing Readiness** box found in the **Miscellaneous** tab, you can choose when to begin manufacturing the product. You can change it to When all components are available if manufacturing won't begin until all parts are guaranteed to be accessible. You can begin production by using the When components for 1st operation are available if there are enough components to complete the first operation. It will be determined by the **Flexible Consumption** if you are permitted to eat more or less of the components than what is specified in the BoM. It can be set to be Blocked, Allowed, or Allowed with Warning. You can specify the order in which the BoM activities should be carried out by activating the **Operation Dependencies.**

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-mbsq6c1l.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-86.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-86.jpg")

When procurement detects that a "Manufacture" route has an operation type specified, it will attempt to build a manufacturing order for that product using a BoM with the same operation type. Finally, you can create an analytical account to keep track of the BoM's expenses and earnings.

Once the configuration of the BoM is complete, you may use it to help you create a manufacturing order for the corresponding product.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-ubemgj7x.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-87.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-87.jpg")

Statistics about the length of the work order associated with this routing will be provided by **Operations Performance** Smart. To acquire a general overview of the BoM, utilize the Overview smart button, as illustrated below.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-7f0bapqw.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-88.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-88.jpg")

Details on the Product, Operations, Quantity, Free to Use/On Hand, Availability, Lead Time, Route, BoM Cost, and Product Cost are included.

### <a name="_Toc5"></a>**Kit**

You can assemble the parts of a product that has several components as a kit and sell the kit as a whole. You will be prompted to choose the BoM type when drafting a bill of materials. Here, you'll discover the Kit option, which enables you to assemble the parts into a kit and market it as a single item. Any changes to the inventory of the kit will also affect the individual parts. As illustrated in the image below, you can configure a product in the Products menu with the name of the kit and the Route of Operation set to Manufacture.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-4abbwkky.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-89.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-89.jpg")

You may now construct a Bill of Materials for the primary product by going to the platform for configuring Bills of Materials. Choose the Kit BoM Type, then list each component of the product under the Components tab.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-mv58cckf.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-90.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-90.jpg")

Once the Kit has been configured, you can sell this item by generating a sales order. You can choose the main product in the sales order's Order Line.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-xu1xvvwy.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-91.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-91.jpg")

Once the sales order has been confirmed, check the delivery order to view the list of individual kit components in the Operations page.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-kcfcomc8.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-92.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-92.jpg")

The Inventory module can be used to replenish any components that are missing at the time the sales order is confirmed.

### <a name="_Toc6"></a>**Subcontracting**

It is not necessary for the corporation to manufacture every part of the products. By subcontracting, you can designate a subcontractor to produce the components while you concentrate more on putting the purchased components together. At the location of the subcontractor, the raw material inventory will be maintained. Go to the **Settings** menu and turn on the **Subcontracting** feature to add this feature to your Manufacturing module.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-g2iqpd13.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-93.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-93.jpg")

Once this functionality has been enabled, you may generate a new Bill of Material for the product by choosing Subcontracting as the BoM Type.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-g1mhpluz.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-94.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-94.jpg")

You will receive a new field where you may enter the name of the **Subcontractor.** To help the subcontractor understand your requirements, include the raw materials and their quantities under the **Components** tab. You can acquire them from the appropriate subcontractor after configuring the subcontracting product by establishing a purchase order in the acquire module.

## <a name="_Toc7"></a>Operations

In order to accomplish the work orders within the allotted period, a work center consists of several operations to oversee. It involves several different procedures, including component assembly, packing, testing, and more. While creating a manufacturing order, you can allocate different operations to a work center. You can configure such operations for each work center using the **Operations** menu found under the **Configuration** of the module.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-bkmizhoo.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-95.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-95.jpg")

This platform will display a list of operations that have previously been set up together with information on the operation, the bill of materials, the work center, the duration computation, the duration, and the instructions. A button that provides you with a detailed look of the instructions is located close to the Instructions box. You can make a new Operation for a work center by selecting the **New** button.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-k2ekecp2.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-96.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-96.jpg")

The name of the Operation might be mentioned in this area. You can provide them in the relevant fields if this procedure is being configured for a certain Bill of Material and Work Centre. Mention them in the Apply on Variants section if you wish to apply this operation to the product variants listed in the BoM.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-zb7oifsn.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-97.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/manufacturing/odoo-book-v17-manufacturing-97.jpg")

There are two techniques for calculating duration. Using the option to "Compute based on the tracked time," you can determine the operation's overall duration based on the time that has been recorded. Alternatively, you may set the duration manually by choosing that option. Here, you may find the operation's default duration. The **Employee Capacity** section allows you to enter the minimum required staff size for the process to be completed successfully. Once the **Company** has been mentioned, you can create a spreadsheet for the operation. A worksheet can be added to an operation as a PDF, Google Slide, or text. The Operation is ready for usage once the worksheets have been included.

## <a name="_Toc8"></a>Reporting

## <a name="_Toc14"></a>**Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)**

For manufacturing businesses, managing the product's lifespan from the point of creation to delivery or disposal is an essential duty. Product lifecycle management offers an efficient way to handle all product-related data and operations that are carried out at various stages of the product life cycle. A centralized system for storing product-related data will make it easier for manufacturers to access the necessary product version whenever they need it. The system will track the product life cycle based on engineering change orders, assisting in obtaining an up-to-date report on the products produced by your business.

The PLM module included in Odoo 17 centralizes all information and activities related to the product life cycle and provides reports on the components, items, and finished goods as well as engineering change orders, paperwork, and quality workflow. The characteristics and capabilities of the Odoo17 PLM module are described in detail in this chapter.

[<u>![](https://docs.onerpsystems.co.ke/uploads/images/gallery/2026-02/embedded-image-vvyw0mi3.png)</u>](https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/plm/odoo-book-v17-plm-001.jpg "https://www.images.cybrosys.com/images/odoo-book/v17/enterprise/plm/odoo-book-v17-plm-001.jpg")

The specifics of the engineering change orders created in this module will be displayed on the module's main dashboard. According to their ECO kind, they will be arranged in the dashboard. This dashboard lets users see how many engineering modifications were performed for each ECO category. To obtain an in-depth look at the ECO under each individual ECO type, click on the corresponding ECO type.
